The latest August

We left Branson after visiting with  our friends, Bob & Sue Guthrie.  We had a great time with them and Sues Family.  I was able to visit Indian Point Boat Dock and the campground there, where I camped many a summer.  Things have changed A LOT!!  I guess I should check on places more than once every 50 years.   Silver Dollar City was just a gun fight and a slanted house 50 years ago, my has it changed.  We stayed at Turkey Creek in Holloster, MO. , an Escapee park.  It is a nice campground and, as usual, reasonably priced.  I highly recommend it.

When we left Turkey Creek, we went back to the St. Louis area to check on my mom.  We did not stay in Cahokia again as they just did not want to give us a pull thru site.  We stayed at Red Barn Rondevous RV Park in Edwardsville, IL.  It is really a nice park.  All 75' pull thru sites with  35/50 amp service.  Unfortunately they are only open until 1 November.  We stayed there a week and spent time with my mom and got to visit with my Aunt and her daughters on 2 occasions.  It was really good to see them.

Once we left Edwardsville, we headed to Millington, TN. aboard NSA Mid-South.  We are in the Mid-South RV Park behind the commissary.  This is really a nice campground.  There are  sites, which used to be the mobile home park on base.  They did a really good job converting it.  I would stay here again in a heart beat.  We did drive over to the RV Park at Navy Lake, and I would Not stay there.  The sites are small and hard to back into.  We have had a good time here, as the last time we were here was 30 years ago.  They had just built the commissary and the back gate where they want you to come in to go to the RV Park.

Since we have been here, we have found our old places we have lived, and were surprised they were still standing. We also visited some folks who actually remember us, and that was really a treat.  As heavy weather is headed where we were going to travel, we extended our stay here for another 5 days, so we will be here until next Monday.  Then we will continue heading toward Georgia Samboree (Rally).  I called to check on my mom today, and she is eating better and the nurse said she seemed to be doing better.  Always good news.

Last night we went by the VFW post.  I had not been in the "new" post as they moved about the time we left 30 years ago.  The post is nice, but it is now open to the public as long as they sign in.  I guess the membership just wasn't enough to keep the doors open.  We did get a picture of Ken Ickeys, who gave Debby away at our wedding.  He was a past Commander of the Post.  We also got a picture of my name on the Life Time Member board.  I knew quite a few names on the board, those who have passed on.

Well, that's about it.  You are now pretty much up to date.  Y'all travel safe, and I'll type more later.
